Expensive for them, lucky for us: (In a Nutshell)
Due to concerns of an over-populated, smog-infested country, Japan has integrated strict emissions laws, regular taxes, a Parking Space (an annual tax fee in and of itself) and a mandatory inspection fee.
Living in a big city in Japan, costs are meant to discourage citizens from owning a car. Traffic jams as far as 30 miles, excessive fuel prices, cities jam-packed with cars to the brim, and highways bunged worst than any day in New York City.
You can see why the Japanese government has had no choice but to enforce such rules with which they austerely enforce.
You Think We Got It Bad:
Shakoshomeishou (Parking Tax):
One must first register for a parking space prior to registering for the vehicle itself. There are options here and prices do vary (anywhere from a few thousand Yen/month up to over 100 000 Yen/month in the heart of most major Japanese cities.
(Regular Taxes):
There are three main taxes to pay when you purchase a car. The bigger the car, the more you will pay.
One is the Acquisition Tax, which is approximately 5% of the car's worth.
Second is the Weight tax which is dependant on the size of the engine
01-2000 cc's (2 liter's) 56700 Yen
2001 + cc's (2 liter's +) 75600 Yen
Third is an annual Tax Fee to be paid once a year in the month of May
Tax ranges from:
Kei Cars (660 cc or less) 5000 Yen/year
Medium-Size 34500 Yen - 39500 Yen/year
2.5 Liter Cars 45000 Yen/year
3 Liter Cars 56000 Yen/year
*License Plate Configuration
Kei Cars (660 cc or less) have a Yellow Plate
50-something on plate indicates a Medium-Sized Car
Passenger Cars with 33 or 300 in the Top-Right Hand Corner are the highest in acquisition Taxes.
Now there is also a Consumption tax due with every fill-up at the gas pump, varying up to15yen/ltr and many fuel stations will not post their prices.
WOW, there's still car insurance:
There are 2 insurance options
(kyosei hoken) This is mandatory and covers the car.
(jibaiseki hoken) This is optional and covers injuries you may receive or cause.
Theft, vandalism, disaster damage, lost wages, etc. are all extras and are not covered by the base jibaiseki hoken.
Cost varies of course, as they do here, and range from age, number of drivers, experience and offences as well as whether or not your car has an airbag.
“But such low mileage??”
(Shaken):
In Japan, people take great pride in both their driving skills and their machines. They judiciously maintain and respect each other's cars; something that is the norm rather than the exception. But there is more to this theory as to how we are able to provide you with the quality we do; Shaken.
Shaken is a mandatory maintenance check to all cars 3 years old and is continual every other year following. Prices are weight dependant but usually falls between 120000 yen –160 000 yen for smaller cars, more the larger they get.
As a car gets older (and older by Japanese Standards is 3 ½ to 4 years old; this where USDM/CDM Manufacturer's Industry Standards is still under a car's warranty) it has an official value of Zero (0 yen) and it has been known to happen that owners have to pay someone to take the cars off their hands.
Currency Conversion 1000 Yen = $9.16 USD
Though this might not have discouraged people from owning a car (seeing as we have had a great history and experience retrieving an abundance of Motor-Sets set to our standards) it has however discouraged owners from keeping their cars much longer than 3 years old (roughly ranging from 60 000-70 000 km's.)
This is how we are able to provide you with the quality we do.
At any given time, our President or Vice-President (either/or) is in Japan, sourcing our inventory from one auction to another, visiting one track to another, and one Parts Bin Yard to another from whom we've have had a long-standing business relationship which stems back to our commitment into this business over 20 years ago.
We do guarantee that all items are delivered as promised, as to say that though they are not covered under our 30-Day Start-up guarantee, which is not an excuse for us to disregard your concerns for a complete Motor-set. Our Motor-Sets come one way, complete. All Major Components for a Honda Bolt-In Swap are included (H22 Hybrid / B16 Cable-to-Hydraulic Conversion not with standing) our business depends on it, and we have two fronts behind this, Our Word and our Products.
The basis for our business is our commitment to providing each of our customers with the best quality motors from Japan. Every Motor we sent out is compression-tested and is checked by our appointed Quality Control/Sales Manager. Dean has been integrated as a part of our team since September/2003. He is here to provide you with both the assurance and the promise to help you make and choose the best choice for your application.
- Cars that have been competitively raced or passed their respective redline will be void from our guarantee.
- Engine/Transmission Malfunction due to neglect such as oil/fluid starvation to either Engine/Tranny; respectively will be void from our guarantee.
- Over-Heating due to neglect to the cooling system and/or any external system malfunction will void our guarantee.
- All engines were destined to be driven within the realms and nature of a street-driven car. All manufacturers have taken due diligence in insuring their engines live a long, healthy, worry-free life with such safety-nets as Rev-Limiters, Proper Air/Fuel Management, Knock Sensors and Bottom-mounted Oil Squirters found on some turbo-charged Counterparts. We prefer stock OEM engines over molded one for these reasons; the safety nets have not been tampered with, and as such, have kept the engines we source in excellent condition.
Our motors are pulled from running cars and in stock OEM form (unless otherwise specified), as such;
- Peripheral or internal modification to the system will void your guarantee(i.e. Turbochargers, Superchargers, Nitrous-Oxide systems (Dry or Wet),Slow-Drive Pulleys, Cam Gears and/Or Shafts, etc)
In the possibility that a part may be defective upon arrival of delivery it is advisable that the customer makes it a point to make a claim with the driver and have it confirmed by him or her prior to them leaving.
